From humble beginnings….
Would you believe the inspiration for Surface Fresh came from the depths of a smelly air conditioning unit back in 2012? Here, Stuart Temple explains how his revolutionary cleaning brand evolved from his frustrations about lingering odours and the world’s wasteful use of plastic.
“When I finished my military career in 2002, I set up my own air conditioning business and was never satisfied with the chemicals available for maintaining the units. We found ourselves using so many different products to ensure that each step of the process, from cleaning to disinfecting and sanitising, was done to the highest standards, but nothing fully removed the lingering smells. I learned never to trust a highly fragranced product. There is no point in masking it. It needs to be eliminated.
It became my mission to find a solution and in 2012, after lengthy research and testing, I founded a tablet with a miracle cure! Not only did it eliminate odours completely, but it cleaned perfectly and killed just about every bacteria, virus, mould and fungus all in a single application. Jobs were completed faster, we spent less money on products and customers were super happy. It was one of those Eureka moments!”
Supporting the war on plastic waste
Alongside Stuart’s crusade to banish bad odours, he has long been frustrated by the world’s wasteful use of plastic.
“Cleaning products are mostly water and too much packaging is needed to carry that water. Over 100 million plastic bottles are used every day and 80% of them end up in landfill or the ocean, which will then take over 450 years to degrade.
The facts are shocking and so it was important for me to find a product that could help make even a small difference in the fight against plastic waste. It’s great to know that every tube of Surface Fresh tablets and our refillable spray bottle will save over 12 single-use cleaning bottles from waste landfill. They also help to conserve water as you only make up as much as you need and save precious carbon miles as they’re so light to transport and store.”
Protecting people in a pandemic
Stuart didn’t anticipate that Surface Fresh would then go on to play such an important role in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus. Following laboratory testing, Surface Fresh was found to kill COVID-19 in just 60 seconds!
